On a
sign outside a lawyer’s office: “Where there’s
a will, there’s a way; Where there’s a way, there’s
a law; Where there’s a law, there’s a loophole;
Where there’s a loophole, there’s me, WALK IN.”

A site to visualize how an earthquake (with different levels of shaking) affects an unsecured and a quake-safe house. I found it bit scary.

Mood:
Set a positive
mood for yourself to study in.
Select the appropriate time, environment, and attitude
Understand:
Mark any information
you don't understand in a particular
unit;
Keep a focus on one unit or a manageable group of exercises
Recall:
After studying the unit,
stop and put what you have learned
into your own words
Digest:
Go back to what you did not understand and
reconsider the information;
Contact external expert sources (e.g., other books or an instructor) if you
still cannot understand
Expand:
In this step, ask
three kinds of questions concerning the
studied material:

  • If I could speak to the author, what questions would I ask or what
    criticism would I offer?

  • How could I apply this material to what I am interested in?

  • How could I make this information interesting and understandable to
    other students?
Review:
Go over the material you've covered,
Review what strategies helped you understand and/or retain information in the
past and apply these to your current studies

This is what I follow while reading academic books. You can try out these tips ;)

Six Tips for effective reading:

  1. Choose a comfortable clutter-free reading zone.
  2. Pay attention to what you are reading. Handle a section at a stipulated time for better focus.
  3. First quickly skim through the content you are going to read to get a rough idea of what you are reading. Don’t ignore the headings and subheadings..
  4. Be specific about what you want to study. Ask yourself a simple question. Why are you reading? Then, start reading keeping in mind what you are looking for.
  5. Mark the important terms or information on your textbook with a highlighter or a pencil for later reference, as you read.
  6. Note down what you learned. Make a list of the important points of what you read (keep it crisp and short) or create a mind map using the important points.

Today, I am feeling bit down. One good friend of mine met with an accident last friday night and his legs got fractured. I came to know today morning only. I was wondering why he was not sending me his regular mails since 2-3 days, but I did not ever think that he could be in hospital. Thank God! its not so serious. I hope he recovers soon.
This incident brings back some sad old memories. Few years back around the same time of year in early October, I had lost a very good friend of mine in an ill-fated car crash. I can never ever forget that day which is/was the saddest day of my life. Till date, it sends a shiver up my spine when I think of that. Sometimes, we take friends and friendship for granted. We come to realise the worth of a friend only when he/she is no more. The void created by the loss of someone close in life can never be filled completely; only time can lessen its impact. But, memories resurface like a bad dream time and time again. I pray to GOD for the safety of my near and dear ones.

Just saw the movie “Chocolate - Deep dark secret”. It was a huge let down. Maybe, I expected too much as my brother smsed me praising so much about the movie and literally tempted me to watch the movie. Huh!…what a difference in taste even between siblings. Only thing I like about the movie is its catchy signature tune.
And this is my first hindi movie I have watched in Hyderabad (in theatre)...

Got this very nice poem from somewhere. Dont know who wrote this. But its really worth reading for the message it conveys......................
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

I went to a party Mom,
I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
So I drank soda instead.

I really felt proud inside, Mom,
The way you said I would.
I didn’t drink and drive, Mom,
Even though the others said I should.

I know I did the right thing, Mom,
I know you are always right.
Now the party is finally ending, Mom,
As everyone is driving out of sight.

As I got into my car, Mom,
I knew I’d get home in one piece.
Because of the way you raised me,
So responsible and sweet.

I started to drive away, Mom,
But as I pulled out into the road,
The other car didn’t see me, Mom,
And hit me like a load.

As I lay there on the pavement, Mom,
I hear the policeman say,
"The other guy is drunk," Mom,
And now I’m the one who will pay.

I’m lying here dying, Mom....
I wish you’d get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom?
My life just burst like a balloon.

There is blood all around me, Mom,
And most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say, Mom,
I’ll die in a short time.

I just wanted to tell you, Mom,
I swear I didn’t drink.
It was the others, Mom.
The others didn’t think.

He was probably at the same party as I.
The only difference is, he drank
And I will die.

Why do people drink, Mom?
It can ruin your whole life.
I’m feeling sharp pains now.
Pains just like a knife.

The guy who hit me is walking, Mom,
And I don’t think it’s fair.
I’m lying here dying
And all he can do is stare.

Tell my brother not to cry, Mom.
Tell Daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven, Mom,
Put "Daddy’s Girl" on my grave.

Someone should have told him, Mom,
Not to drink and drive.
If only they had told him, Mom,
I would still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom.
I’m becoming very scared.
Please don’t cry for me, Mom.
When I needed you, you were always there.

I have one last question, Mom.
Before I say good bye.
I didn’t drink and drive,
So why am I the one to die?

I have been indulging myself whole morning in the US Open Men Quarterfinal match between my all-time favorite Andre Agassi and fellow American James Blake (Agassi look-alike). Two sets down and looking weary, Agassi suddenly regain his touch and went on to win the match to advance in the semis. Quite a mood uplifter for me....

Aki
Your Japanese name should be

'Aki'

which means
"autumn".

You can be compared with
autumn, the way the autumn weather changes, is
how your feelings change. You have these mood
swings you can't control; one moment you're
happy, the next you're feeling almost
depressed. You're probably sensitive and
creative.

People see you as a Shy Rich Girl. Now, whether you
are rich or not is not the issue. The fact is
you are shy and full of innocence. I wouldn't
be suprised if there is some stuffed animals
hanging around in your room. Girlish innocence
is hard to find in this day and age so don't
loose it. You radiate sophistication and
prettinees. Enjoy the lace, frills, and pink my
friend!

This is the first entry in my new journal. Right now, I am not in a mood to write anything. I am just writing for the sake of writing. Kind of pointless writing. This shows the mood I am having right now. Yeah, I'm extremely bored right now. Mostly, I write when I am very upset or over-joyous. I better end writing now for the moment.
